The Palmares Golf Course

The 27-hole Palmares Golf Course on Meia Praia which was inaugurated in 1976 lies close to the town of Lagos in the Algarve. With panoramic views it is outstanding location for a golf course in the Algarve. The course was originally designed by Frank Pennink as 18 holes in the traditional English parkland style running on the beach and onto the south facing hillside. In 2011 it was redesigned by the golfing architect Trent Jones II as a 27 hole course and one golf magazine has rated it as the 26th best golf course in Continental Europe.

The 27 holes have been divided into three continuous segments, the Alvor Nine, the Lagos Nine and the Praia Nine. The Alvor Nine holes are on the eastern and northern side through mature trees and with views to the Monchique hills and also down to the Alvor Estuary. The Lagos Nine holes starts in the tree area and then the fairways run down towards the beach with lovely views of the ocean. The Praia Nine holes are divided between the lower slope of the Estate and the beach. The four fairways and greens thatare on the sanddunes give the impression of playing on a Links Course.
